Drum Fertilizer Dryer

The drum fertilizer dryer is specialized equipment designed to reduce the moisture content of granulated fertilizer to levels safe for storage. It serves as a critical processing stage in organic and compound fertilizer production lines, positioned after granulation and prior to cooling and packaging. By utilizing a rotating drum to ensure thorough contact between the material and hot air, the dryer evaporates moisture from within the granules; this process enhances granule strength, prevents caking, and facilitates storage and transport. Characterized by high processing capacity and stable operation, it is an indispensable piece of equipment in fertilizer production.

Working Principle

Wet granular material enters the rotating drum from the feed end. The drum is installed at an incline and rotates at a constant speed; inside, lifting flights (lifters) pick up, scatter, and tumble the material, creating a continuous curtain of falling particles. Hot air—generated by a furnace or steam heat exchanger—is introduced into the drum, flowing either concurrently or counter-currently to the material. As the hot air passes through the material curtain, it removes moisture from both the surface and the interior of the granules, gradually drying the material. The dried granules are then discharged from the outlet end and proceed to the cooling stage.

Equipment Components

Rotating Drum: A cylindrical main body made of rolled and welded steel plate, installed at an incline and featuring multiple layers of internal lifting flights.

Lifting Flight System: Various types of flights welded to the inner wall lift and scatter the material, creating a curtain of material.

Drive System: A motor drives a pinion gear via a gearbox; the pinion meshes with a large girth gear to rotate the drum.

Support and Thrust Rollers: Four sets of support rollers bear the drum’s weight, while thrust rollers prevent axial shifting.

Hot Air System: A hot air furnace or steam heat exchanger generates hot air, which is delivered into the drum by a fan.

Feed and Discharge Units: The front feed box connects to the hot air duct, while the rear discharge box handles both exhaust and material discharge.
